Lure Coursing in Orange County
with Intelligent Agility

Lure coursing is now available in Orange County through Intelligent Agility, and is offered in addition to the agility classes that they already offer. “We are happy that people and their pooches can take part in this fast paced and exhilarating dog sport” said Erin Riley, co-owner of Intelligent Agility. “Outside of occasional trials, people and their doggies would have to go to either San Diego County or the Inland Empire.”

So what is Lure Coursing? Lure Coursing is a fast-paced, fun chase sport. Dogs run after a "bunny" lure (usually a white plastic bag or a toy) that is attached to a line controlled by a machine and a lure operator. The machine runs the line at the speed determined by the lure operator (and the dogs) and the dogs chase the lure. Courses are set up by a series of pulleys, and the more experienced the dog, the more complicated the courses.

Lure Coursing is great for dogs of all sizes, from toy breeds to giant breeds, and everything in between. And unlike Intelligent Agility’s agility classes, lure coursing focuses on the dog and not so much the handler. This allows the class structure to be more flexible than agility. With lure coursing, you can sign up anytime. Upon sign up (five classes), you can take lure coursing at your own pace through an issued class punch card. Whenever you come to class, your card is punched. When the card has been punched five times, you have completed a set of classes. It's that easy!

Intelligent Agility knows that when it comes to Lure Coursing, some dogs take to Lure Coursing more than others. So Intelligent Agility offers a free lure coursing run for those who have not yet tried it. That way you can see how your furry best friend reacts to chasing lures before committing to a set of classes. While one can usually tell how a dog will react to lure coursing early on, this is not the case with dogs and agility. As a side note, far too often we have seen dogs who seem to struggle early on in beginning agility blossom as the class proceeds.

Like agility, Intelligent Agility’s lure coursing is outdoors, on grass and the course is fenced in. “Sure it's a lot of work to put up and take down a fence, especially for an area large enough to accommodate Lure Coursing” said Erin. “But we feel our clientele can relax and enjoy the sport more without having to worry about their dogs ever suddenly running away.”

Intelligent Agility is always concerned about your dog’s safety. So, when your dog begins lure coursing, the courses are short. As your dog builds stamina and gets used to more sudden turns, the courses become longer and more complex. But, even with beginning lure coursing, everyone watching their dog respond to the shorter courses, will find it quite exhilarating! It's all about your dog having fun!!
